The world feels like a much different place than it did this time last year. This international day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia, let’s remember that we cannot take anything for granted. Let’s remember to support and strengthen each-other. Let those of us with relative privilege make room at the table for those whose voices are too often ignored or silenced. And let’s remind those who would silence us that we are still here, we are still queer, and we are most definitely not going anywhere.
We encourage you to take action today, whatever that looks like for you. One good idea is solidarity with our community in Chechnya. The crisis there is ongoing and there is a risk of the mainstream media losing interest in the story. If you have some resources, please donate to the Russian LGBT network who are on the ground working to help the victims and to get vulnerable men out of the region. You can also sign Amnesty Internationals petition to put pressure on the United Nations. Find out more here: http://www.newnownext.com/chechyna-gay-camp/04/2017/
